Call to Muralists

The Xenia Mural Society, a component of Greene Giving, is issuing a Call to Muralists to solicit professional muralists to bid on the completion of the first Xenia murals. We have already chosen two mural designs which we would like to have placed on the first two candidate buildings. We would like to allow for the use of volunteers in the preparation, execution, and preservation of these murals.

We realize that traditional murals are generally designed and completed by a single muralist. We have made the decision at the beginning of the Xenia Murals Project to solicit local artists to design the first two murals inorder to build community awareness and participation. Both of the mural finalists have given their permission to allow some modification of their designs by the executing muralists and they are eager to work with the chosen muralist(s) to create memorable mural art in Xenia.

The City of Xenia has acquired a grant to fund the completion of the first two murals.

The Xenia Mural Society with the help of a grant from the Ohio Arts Council, will be facilitating the creation of a number of pieces of public mural art in Xenia. The Society is made up of interested citizens who have volunteered their time and expertise to provide direction and focus for the mural project; to help building owners locate funding for the mural art from the private and public sectors; and to promote expansion and preservation of other Xenia murals in the future.

The legal stuff:
Once an artist’s design has been selected, the Artist hereby assigns the copyrights of their designs to the Xenia Mural Society. The Xenia Mural Society reserves the right to select, in its sole discretion and for any reason, the winning designs. The Xenia Mural Society also reserves the right to reject, in its sole discretion, any design that reflects social disrespect, contains inappropriate words or images, or is deemed unacceptable by the Xenia Mural Society for any other reason.

The Xenia Mural Society shall have the right to reproduce and distribute the design(s) or any derivative(s) of the design for the purposes of promoting and advertising the project by all means of media. The Xenia Mural Society shall also have the right to use the design(s) or any derivative(s) on a variety of merchandise as yet to be determined. No additional payment will be made to the artist for these rights. The completed murals will be the property of the Xenia Mural Society.
