Community Planning for First New Murals

A Xenia Mural Society has been formed as a component of Greene Giving, the Greene County Community Foundation. We are now meeting monthly at the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce building, 334 W. Market St., Xenia, OH

The Xenia Mural Society will be facilitating the creation of a number of pieces of public mural art in Xenia. It is made up of interested citizens who have volunteered their time and expertise to help provide direction and focus for the project and they will work to help building owners to locate funding for the art from the private and public sectors and to promote expansion and preservation of other Xenia Murals in the future.

Our Purpose

1. Assist building owners – downtown and other -- within the city limits who want to use their buildings for non-commercial, civic-oriented visual art.

2. Encourage the City to enact an ordinance and/or guidelines that permits such displays.

3. Determine and delineate themes.

4. Distill lessons from other cities' mural projects (such as materials, maintenance, budgets, artist competition, etc.).

5. Collect good design ideas and share them with owners.

6. Help find good muralists and materials.

7. Identify best practices in maintenance.

8. Assist with finding sources of funding.

9. Gain owner’s commitment for maintenance
